Kazumi Yumoto

Kazumi Yumoto has written several award-winning novels for older children, particularly on the theme of death. As a child she had a pet sparrow and when it died her mother gently explained death to her. Yumoto says, “Whenever I think of the power of words, I recall that night and cannot help but be grateful to my mother…Were it not for this incident, I might not have become a writer”.
